Kid Friendly Activities to do in San Diego This Month

by Charmaine Orcino-Gonzales

San Diego is a fantastic place to raise a family, and this September and October are packed with kid-friendly activities that will make both parents and children smile. Whether you're new to the area or a long-time resident, there's always something exciting happening in San Diego's vibrant neighborhoods.

As students in the Chula Vista Elementary School District and Sweetwater Union High School District gear up for their upcoming Fall Break, here are some ideas on how to make the most out of your family time:

**Lifestyle: Embrace the Outdoors**

One of the best things about living in San Diego is our beautiful weather, perfect for outdoor adventures. Start your weekends with a visit to Balboa Park, where kids can explore the various gardens, playgrounds, and museums. The San Diego Natural History Museum has interactive exhibits that will keep your little ones engaged for hours.

If your kids love animals, don't miss out on a trip to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. With cooler temperatures in September and October, it's an ideal time to enjoy the park's numerous attractions without the summer crowds.

**Neighborhood: Local Events**

San Diego's neighborhoods are buzzing with family-friendly events this month. In North Park, the annual Adams Avenue Street Fair takes place on September 21st - 22nd. It's one of Southern California's largest free music festivals and offers plenty of activities for kids, including carnival rides and games.

**Quick Day Trip: Just a Hop, Skip and a Jump Away**

If you're looking for a quick getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city, take a short drive to one of our favorite neighboring towns, Julian, CA. Just about an hour away, Julian is the perfect day trip to the country side. There are so many activities all the time, so take a look at what is scheduled when you plan to head up there and don't forget to stop for some apple pie.

**Special Events: Halloween Fun**

As October rolls around, Halloween-themed events begin to pop up across San Diego. The Haunted Trail at Balboa Park offers a spooky yet family-friendly experience suitable for older kids and kicks off on September 27th. For younger children, consider visiting Legoland California for their Brick-or-Treat Party Nights. This event features trick-or-treating throughout the park, costume contests, and live entertainment.

San Diego offers an abundance of kid-friendly activities during September and October. From exploring local parks to attending neighborhood festivals and special Halloween events, there's no shortage of fun for families in this beautiful city. So grab your calendar and start planning your next family adventure!
